Earth Sciences at MPC introduces Geology and Oceanography in one of the most stunning settings to study either. Monterey Bay and the Monterey Peninsula provide world-class examples of processes that shape our earth and oceans. Scientists from around the world come here to study what is happening in your back yard.

Our classes teach global themes using our local examples. These are rigorous classes that transfer to universities. They satisfy GE physical science requirements and serve as prerequisites for more advanced classes in the Earth and Marine Sciences. 

Earth Science courses focus on using the scientific method to evaluate data, develop hypotheses, and test those hypotheses through further data collection and evaluation. 

Our courses emphasize learning field methods for collecting data, evaluating that data to understand local geologic and oceanographic processes and communicating your learning and discoveries with your peers.
