The Department of History at Monterey Peninsula College offers the Associate in Arts in History for Transfer degree (AA-T in History) program of instruction to introduce students to the widely ranging historical record of
human experience. The chronological, geographical, and topical range of courses offers students a variety of choices to transfer into the CSU system to work toward a baccalaureate degree in history or to give a historical dimension to their studies in other disciplines.

Students must complete the Associate Degree for Transfer requirements to earn the AA-T degree.


Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  • Read and analyze primary and secondary sources.
  • Write college-level analytical essays on historical subjects.
  • Describe the basic chronological history of the U.S., Europe, and electivenon-European regions chosen by the student.
  • Use race, class, and gender as categories of analysis to understand history.
