Monterey Peninsula College offers 2 different associate in science degrees and a certificate of completion in early childhood education. Our program is committed to serving your academic and career needs. The early childhood education program integrates both theoretical and practical coursework while focusing on the physical, intellectual , social, and emotional development of children birth through school-age.
Our degrees and certificate are designed to educate and prepare you to work with linguistically and culturally diverse groups of children in early childhood education programs, schools, centers, and family child care homes which require and meet Title 22 and Title 5 state education licensing codes and Child Development Permit Matrix. Our AS transfer degree allows you to transfer 60 credits to a 4 year state college.
The Child Development Department offers coursework required by California State Licensing and the Department of Education for all levels of children’s center teachers and directors, and for family childcare providers. The Department participates in the Child Development Training Consortium and the California Mentor Project. Current specializations are Violence Intervention, Creative Processes and High/Scope.
