Enrollment and Externship Process Information

DEAR MA STUDENT:

If you have successfully completed all requirements (including BLS for Healthcare Providers), for a Medical Assisting Certificate of Achievement, except for MEDA 130, then CONGRATULATIONS are in order. You are now eligible to apply for a medical assisting externship in a medical office or clinic. This final course is the most exciting and rewarding of them all. It is your chance to show real medical professionals what you have learned through your hard work and dedication.

The following steps and documents will help you get started:

First, complete this  MEDA 130 EXTERNSHIP READINESS SELF ASSESSMENT and see where you may need further review.

Next, review these EXTERNSHIP ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES to learn about expectations for all involved.

If you are ready to proceed, complete this MEDICAL ASSISTING EXTERNSHIP APPLICATION and send it via email to ggensel@mpc.edu. Gather all required materials and prepare a resume. As the semester approaches, you will be given an add code for MEDA 130. Once you enroll in MEDA 130, you will find additional information in Canvas. Please note that enrolling in MEDA 130 does NOT guarantee externship placement.

I look forward to guiding you through this very important step in your journey towards a career in medical assisting!
