MPC's Automotive Technology Department offers four different programs:
Certificate of Achievement (Career Technical)- Maintenance and Light Repair
This program provides students with the skills and knowledge required to obtain an entry-level position as a technician in the automotive service and repair industry. Note: This is the only program that can be completed by taking only evening classes. All other programs require that you take classes during the day. This program can be completed in one (day) or two years (evening classes).
Certificate of Achievement (Career Technical)- Emission Specialist
This program is designed to prepare students for employment as licensed Smog Check technicians. It meets the State of California Level 1 and Level 2 license requirements. Students who complete the program are eligible and prepared to take the Smog Check Inspector License Exam. This program can be completed in roughly one year (fall start).
Certificate of Achievement (Career Technical)- Automotive Technology
MPC’s Certificate of Achievement in Automotive Technology Program provides an in-depth introduction to the automotive service and repair field. It is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in automotive dealerships, independent repair facilities, customizing shops and other auto-related industries. This program can be completed in one year.
Associate in Science (Career Technical) – Automotive Technology
MPC’s Automotive Technology Associate Degree Program provides an in-depth introduction to the automotive service and repair field. It also provides students with a solid foundation in academic disciplines (math, English, science). The program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in automotive dealerships, independent repair facilities, customizing shops, and other auto-related industries. Students also receive training that will serve them in corporate and management positions. In addition, this program can be used as a stepping stone to a four-year degree. The Associate Degree Program takes approximately two years to complete.
