subText is a romantic comedy that centers on Cameron, a young man trying to decode texts from the lab partner he has a secret crush on, with the help of his best friend, Dani. Looking for love has always been challenging, and subText takes a lighthearted but very honest look at how social media has made dating in the digital age even more complicated. Begging the question, has instantaneous communication and public posting of ones most intimate feelings made getting your message across more difficult than ever before? Join Cameron, Dani, and their friends as they navigate the awkwardness of making a relationship “Facebook Official” and “Instagram Acceptable,” along with capturing the perfect selfie that won’t cause public humiliation, all while searching for that one right person.
-About the Director-
Director Laura Coté has been an MPC Theatre Arts instructor since 2010. A native New Yorker, she has called the Monterey Peninsula home since 1998. A cum laude graduate from Vassar College with a degree in Drama, Laura enjoys combining classical theatrical training with more modern approaches to teach and create unique and distinctive art. She has worked as an actress, set designer and director. At MPC, Laura recently directed The Desperate Hours (2018), The Adventures of Robin Hood (2018) and Present Laughter (2017). She has also directed some of our most popular MPC Storybook Theatre productions, including Cinderella (2013), Little Women (2012), The Snow Queen (2011), The Princess and The Pea (2010). Laura has also directed Glorious (2013), For Better (2013) and Good People (2014) at the fondly remembered Magic Circle Theatre. She first discovered her calling at the age of nine when her family took her to see Annie on Broadway. Laura remembers sitting in the audience thoroughly enchanted and thinking, "I'm going to do that one day"…and now she does!
