Program Overview:

Jewelry makers and metal workers practice transformation. Silver, gold, gemstones, iron, and steel become works of art, tools, and much more. Students in MPC’s Jewelry and Metal Arts program learn a wide range of historical and modern skills, including stone setting, enameling, metal casting, soldering, chain making, and tin smithing. Projects involve artistic design and expression, technical and manual skill building, and problem solving. Students graduate with a well-rounded body of work demonstrating readiness for an array of commercial pursuits.

Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the program, students
will be able to:

  • Create a range of fabrication and casting techniques for jewelry.
  • Identify and research historical and cultural objects as inspiration for designs.
  • Make individualized works of personal expression.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills to continue to develop and build upon their foundation.
  • Present a cohesive body of work for public venues.
