Abrian Curington, an Illustrator and Cartographer, is dedicated to producing graphic novels and fantastical maps that ignite curiosity and champion exploration. Since graduating from Western Washington University, she has been incorporating her childhood love of science into work, creating GIS maps, weaving in factual information among my fantasy work, and creating informative travel journals of my trips aboard research vessels as a science communicator. Recent science communication work includes being an Artist-at-Sea, aboard the Research Vessel Falkor, speaking about Visual Storytelling at Ocean Sciences Meeting 2020, and creating courses for Lifeology.io.

Steven Haddock studies marine diversity, molecular biology, and bioluminescence at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and UC Santa Cruz. He specializes in the fragile gelatinous jellyfish-like creatures that are abundant in the water-column of the deep-sea and open ocean. In addition to conducting research expeditions around the world, he uses genetic methods to reveal the relationships between organisms and to understand the proteins that they use to make light. He has a special interest in science communication, which he exercises through the Bioluminescence Web Page (biolum.eemb.ucsb.edu), the citizen-science project jellywatch.org, and a textbook for teaching computing to scientists at practicalcomputing.org.
