Join us for our Live, Online Guest Authors Series Discussion this fall!

Wednesday,  September 30, 2020

The MPC Guest Authors Series invites you to attend and join in a live, online discussion of fiction writing with Aimee Bender, author of the new novel The Butterfly Lampshade and previous novels An Invisible Sign of My Own and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, as well as the short story collections The Girl in the Flammable Skirt, Willful Creatures, and The Color Master.

The author is known for blending realism and fantasy, her stories taking place in what is recognizably our reality but often including impossible characters and other elements. She is also notable for the deep characterizations of her novel's protagonists, whose inner lives are as richly imagined as any external components of the narratives they inhabit and shape.

We hope you can join us for this wide-ranging discussion of fiction writing with an author praised for writing stories that reveal and explore the magic and the mysteries waiting just beyond perception (for most people) in the familiar world we know.

Please confirm your intention to attend via email to the MPC Guest Authors Series Director at hmarchand@mpc.edu.

About the Series

As participants in The MPC Guest Authors Series, accomplished writers of poetry and prose come to our main campus in Monterey for public readings and discussions of writing and literature with MPC students.

Supported by The MPC Creative Writing ProgramEnglish Department, and Humanities Division, as well as The MPC Foundation and The Arts Council for Monterey County, the Series typically presents two Guest Authors each academic year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring semester.

Further enhancing the vibrant and inspiring Creative Writing environment at MPC, the Series offers extraordinary opportunity for those who pursue their own writing interest by way of our multi-genre Creative Writing curriculum to meet with and learn from diverse literary artists of consummate skill.

Information about the Guest Authors Series, and video of past Series events, may be found on the Guest Authors page on the Creative Writing website
