On Thursday, September 29, join us for the annual BANNED BOOKS READ-OUT from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Sam Karas Room of the LTC (Campus Library). MPC students, faculty, staff and others will read from and discuss books that have been banned or challenged at libraries and in school systems in the United States. All who attend are welcome to read!
Recently, the "Top 10" have included Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, The Harry Potter Series, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hunger Games series and other familiar titles.
Books that have been among the most targeted for decades include classics like Fahrenheit 451, 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, Slaughterhouse Five, The Color Purple, Beloved, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, among others.
From Monday, September 26 through Thursday, the September 29th, the BANNED BOOKS RAFFLE returns to the Caroline Page Garden outside the LTC from 10 am - 2 pm.Copies of books that have been banned or challenged are rallfed at a cost of $.50 per ticket, or 3 for $1.00. (Proceeds are used to buy books for the next year's raffle!)
