Are you a non-native speaker of English who wants to strengthen your English skills? The English as a Second Language (ESL) program has six levels of instruction, from beginning to university-level courses. Beginning levels help you gain fluency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Upper levels include spoken and written practice while focusing on academic English to prepare you for success in university classes. Residents and international students are welcome.

To learn which classes are right for you, complete the English as a Second Language Guided Placement Tool.
The tool will identify your Reading/Writing and Listening/Speaking course recommendations.

If you are enrolled in ESL classes and if you do not have a computer at home, you can apply to borrow a Chromebook. The Chromebook Check-Out Program is available at both the Monterey and Marina campuses.
