Emergency Medical Technician Training

MPC’s EMT program is the first step in an emergency services career. Coursework meets state and national requirements for certification.

Complete these steps to begin the program:

  1. Provide Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification
  2. Fill Out the EMT Program Interest Form
  3. Gather Forms and Information Outlined in the EMT Program Checklist
Basic EMS & Fire Training

Interested in a career as a firefighter? California fire departments now require emergency medical training for employment. 

MPC’s EMS with Fire Training program combines EMT classes with an introduction to  fire academy coursework. Prepare for the National Registry EMT exam, which you must pass before entering MPC’s Fire Academy.

Seaside Campus & Field Training
  • Courses are held at MPC’s Public Safety Training Center in Seaside. 
  • EMT students complete 24 hours of field training on an ambulance and in a hospital. 

  • Students pursuing a paramedic certificate or degree complete a semester-long clinical program and an ambulance field internship.

Degrees & Certificates to Choose From

Coursework qualifies students to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician test and state psychomotor skills exam to become EMTs. From there, students can enter the job market, apply to fire academies, or add further coursework leading to qualification as a paramedic.

Emergency Medical Technician I - Basic Training

Working on the Front Lines of Health Care

Emergency medical personnel most commonly work on ambulances and in fire departments as critical members of emergency response teams.  After initial coursework, MPC students can work as entry-level EMTs while pursuing further study to become paramedics, firefighters, medical assistants, or physicians.
