Math Science Upward Bound (MSUB) is a TRIO federally-funded grant program offering an intensive summer academy in marine biology for eligible high school students. The program’s goal is to increase the number of income-eligible, first-generation college students pursuing math and science majors and careers.

Summer at UC Santa Cruz

Participants spend six weeks on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus, in an intensive summer academy, where alongside the challenging academic curriculum, students will also take a personal development class to foster self-awareness, interpersonal understanding, and college orientation. The program balances academic rigor with social and recreational activities.

Weekend field trips enhance the academic curriculum, including visits to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, MBARI, Point Lobos, Cal Academy of Science, kayaking, & more.

  • USDA Summer Food Services Program (SFSP)

Our program provides subsidized meals through the USDA SFSP to all participants during the summer program.

University of California

  • University of California (UC) - This is the University of California's application for undergraduate admission and scholarships. Here you can apply to these UC campuses: Davis, Berkeley, Merced, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Riverside and Irvine.
  • Entry Level Writing Requirement - ALL STUDENTS who will enter the University of California as freshmen must demonstrate their command of the English language by fulfilling the Entry Level Writing Requirement (formerly known as Subject A requirement).

Private Schools

  • The Common Application - The Common Application serves over 1 million students and school officials annually through our free online First-Year and Transfer applications. Our membership of over 500 public and private colleges and universities represents the full diversity of four-year higher education in the US and, increasingly, overseas.
  • CCS Profile - is an application distributed by the College Board in the U.S allowing college students to apply for financial aid. It is primarily designed to give private member institutions of the College Board a closer look into the finances of a student and family. It is much more detailed that the FAFSA
  • CCS Code List - Here you will find the code number of the institution. So Make sure to see if the private school that you are applying to requires a CCS Profile.

MCNair - Funds are awarded to institutions of higher education to prepare eligible participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. Participants are from disadvantaged backgrounds and have demonstrated strong academic potential. Institutions work closely with participants as they complete their undergraduate requirements. Institutions encourage participants to enroll in graduate programs and then track their progress through to the successful completion of advanced degrees. The goal is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society.
