You may be exempt from all placement and assessment requirements if you are:
- Taking courses for personal interest that do not require an English or Math course as a prerequisite.
- Taking courses for advancement in current job/career (update job skills) that do not require an English or Math course as a prerequisite.
- Taking courses to maintain a certificate or license that do not require an English or Math course as a prerequisite.
- Are concurrently enrolled at another college, or have assessed at another Community College in California, and/or are taking courses that do not require an English or Math course as a prerequisite
Exemption from English Assessment
You may be exempt from placement and assessment requirements for English if:
- You have already completed a college-level reading or writing course with a passing grade of “C” or higher. For 4-year, out-of-state or private colleges, you must provide a catalog course description.
- You have taken an English assessment at another California Community College. Submit the qualifying raw score report.
- You earned a score of 151 or higher on the CSU English Placement Test.
- You are eligible to receive English credit through completion of the CLEP (50th percentile).
- You completed the College Board Advanced Placement exam in English Language or English Literature test with a score of 3 or higher.
- You received a result of "Standard Exceeded" on the CAASPP (Smarter Balanced) test.
NOTE:
- You must provide college transcripts or assessment (test) score reports to verify you’ve met the criteria.
- Submit documentation, along with a Prerequisite Verification Form, to the Academic Counseling Department.
Exemption from Math Assessment
You may be exempt from placement and assessment requirements for Math if:
- You have completed a college level math course with a passing grade of “C” or higher. For 4-year, out-of-state or private colleges, you must provide a catalog course description.
- You have taken a Math assessment at another California Community College. Submit the qualifying raw score report.
- You earned a score of 50 or higher on the CSU Entry Level Mathematics exam.
- You are eligible to receive Math credit through completion of the CLEP (50th percentile).
- You completed the College Board Advanced Placement Mathematics Test (AB or BC) with a score of 3 or higher.
- You earned a result of "Standard Exceeded" on the CAASPP (Smarter Balanced) test. Please note that a result of "Standard Met" may also provide an exemption along with additional documentation.
