Email jluke@mpc.eduAddressing a Critical Teacher Shortage
California has long-standing shortages of science and math teachers. The Noyce / RISE Grants help address these shortages by encouraging STEM students to enter the teaching profession.
Resources to Support STEM Teachers
The Noyce / RISE Grants is a partnership with CSU Monterey Bay designed to serve underrepresented minorities in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teaching field.
Grant recipients access academic and professional resources to support their STEM Teacher Pathway. Through the Rural Integrated STEM Education (RISE) project, they develop teaching competence through rural school internships and education outreach experiences.
Grant Benefits
Grant recipients have access to specialized opportunities, including:
- Academic Advising
- Mentoring and professional skill development throughout your educational experience
- Regional STEM internship experiences and education outreach
- Deeper understanding of assessment methods and evidence of learning through STEM education research and outreach projects
- RISE Readiness Training
Local Advantages & Partners
We use local resources to our advantage by studying the Central Coast's "salad bowl" and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. These compelling environments inspire exciting and intensive teaching and research experiences for our STEM Teacher Pathway students.
MPC has partnered with four other Central Coast Hispanic-Serving Institutions – CSU Monterey Bay, Hartnell Community College District, Cabrillo College, and the Monterey County Office of Education – to implement evidence-based components in early STEM teacher pathways.
