Committees of faculty, staff, and students are essential to MPC’s participatory governance. They provide a means for communicating perspectives and voices to those who have the responsibility for making final institutional decisions: the Superintendent/President and the Board of Trustees.

COMMITTEE ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
AS - Academic Senate

The Academic Senate represents the faculty in academic and professional matters as defined by Title 5 (“10+1”). It makes recommendations directly to the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent/President on issues such as curriculum, academic standards, and faculty professional development.  Students, staff, faculty, and community members are welcome to attend.

Meeting times:  First and third Thursdays of the month during the academic year (2:30 - 4:30pm)

CAC - Curriculum Advisory Committee

The Curriculum Advisory Committee (CAC) oversees all curriculum development, review, and approval at MPC. As a subcommittee of the Academic Senate, it recommends new courses, programs, and revisions to the Board of Trustees through the Senate. Students, staff, faculty, and community members are welcome to attend.

Meeting times: Wednesdays during the academic year with occasional exceptions (3:00 - 4:30pm)

Classified Senate

The Classified Senate represents classified professionals in the shared governance process. It provides input on matters affecting classified staff, working conditions, and institutional planning, ensuring their perspective informs college decisions. Students, staff, faculty, and community members are welcome to attend.

Advisory Groups

Advisory Groups support each major area of the college: Academic Affairs, Administrative Services, Human Resources, Student Services, and the President’s Office by reviewing recommendations from committees and forwarding them through shared governance channels.

Advises on the development of the college’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and fiscal responsibility.

Online Education Committee (OEC)

Oversees policies, quality standards, and professional development related to online and hybrid instruction. Has two faculty co-chairs to help coach you on online education.

Calendar Committee

Recommends the academic calendar and ensures alignment with state requirements and instructional priorities.

Graduation Committee

Plans and coordinates the annual commencement ceremony and related student recognition activities.

Institutional Review Board IRB)

Reviews research involving human subjects to ensure ethical standards and compliance with federal regulations.

Professional Recognition Board

Recognizes outstanding faculty and staff achievements, including tenure, awards, and service milestones.

Student Discipline Committee

Conducts hearings and makes recommendations in cases involving alleged student misconduct.

Student Grievance Committee

Reviews and resolves student complaints and grievances in accordance with established college procedures.
