For over 60 years, the MPC Theatre Company has enriched Monterey Peninsula’s culture by educating students, engaging audiences, and producing live theater. As the production arm of the Theatre Arts Department, it complements MPC’s educational program with high-quality performances on campus and throughout the community, offering students and local talent the chance to participate in exceptional theater.

Margaret and the Wampus Cat by Katie Myers

Deep in the woods of Appalachia, the demonic Wampus Cat waits to drive you mad – at least, that’s how the story goes. Margaret, a restless teenager who is searching for a place to belong, is ready for an adventure. When the Wampus Cat comes back to her town after a long period of absence, Margaret takes it upon herself to hunt her down and become a hero. But the Wampus Cat doesn’t seem to want a fight, and instead offers a curious bargain. What follows is a story of vulnerability, resilience, and identity; a story of queer love and shape-shifting, based in East Tennessee legend.

Originally written in 1664, Molière’s classic French comedy, Tartuffe, tells the story of a fraudulent, hypocritical "holy man", who worms his way into a wealthy, aristocratic family. Tartuffe manipulates the patriarch, Orgon, into signing over his estate and household, creating chaos within his family, until the King steps in to expose and arrest the imposter.

A young woman entrapped in a world that demands only one script be followed. Despite her own hopes and dreams her life’s progression is pre-ordained and dictated by the industrial capitalist society. Loosely based on real life events, “Machinal” is a fearlessly frank examination of the expectations of marriage and motherhood. This young woman’s life is one that, in any industrial, capitalist society, will be eerily familiar to all women on some level. Sophie’s Treadwell’s gripping and pulse-pounding surrealist drama illustrates what can happen when one is pushed to breaking point and relentlessly ground down by the machinery of life.

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. But he’s not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise control over the town’s youth. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges pins a father longing for the son he lost against a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. Set to the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score, augmented with dynamic new songs, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm heart and open mind.
