Program Overview

The transformation of observed reality into art is at the core of the Drawing program. Coursework enhances perception, focus, and mechanical skills through practice of a variety of drawing techniques, from figure drawing to landscapes and perspective. Students also learn the language of visual art and practice analysis and evaluation. Graduates are prepared for onward study in the studio arts and careers as visual creators.

Job Outlook

While making a living as a fine artist can be challenging, demand for graduates with drawing skills is strong. Jobs are expected to grow 15% through 2026, with opportunities ranging from courtroom illustration to architectural drafting to film storyboarding. Those with a passion for drawing can also seek further training in order to become art teachers, whether for elementary school students or in recreational settings at local arts or community centers.

Testimonials

Rachell Hester

I was able to explore various art processes through excellent studio arts, graphic arts, and technology courses taught by faculty that are knowledgeable in their area of expertise and able to make learning these skills and tools fun and engaging. As an artist, I had solo shows based on the knowledge and skills that I gained through courses at MPC.
