Program Overview
Mathematics provides a solid foundation for advanced study in a range of fields, from data science to physics to finance. Students in the Mathematics program hone their problem-solving skills; construct mathematical models of physical problems; and formulate, test and prove mathematical results. MPC’s small class sizes allow for individualized instruction, resulting in transfer students feeling better prepared for upper-division coursework at four-year institutions.
Job Outlook
In an increasingly complex, data-driven world, math matters more than ever. Many industries value math graduates for their analytical and problem-solving skills. With further study and training, graduates can work at research and development laboratories in interdisciplinary teams that may include economists, engineers, computer scientists, physicists, technicians, educators, and others. Additional study in statistics lays the foundation for a career in the fields of statistical research, data analysis, finance, public health, and psychology.

Testimonials
Daniel Vazquez Guevara
MPC’s Math program helped to develop the mathematical maturity necessary to succeed in the world-class computer science & engineering program at UC Berkeley. Every math class at MPC enabled me to solve increasingly challenging mathematical and logical problems with real-word applications. The faculty is extremely helpful, supportive, and definitely played a crucial role in my academic success.

The smaller class sizes at Monterey Peninsula College give every student access to personalized help, allowing students to develop a solid foundation of mathematical understanding. The personal engagement with professors and classmates creates an inviting atmosphere to truly become comfortable and confident with math, encouraging students to reevaluate and explore their major options before transferring. This type of support system from professors and classmates is what I miss the most after transferring to UC Berkeley as a mathematics major.

The MPC Mathematics Program was a challenging and fulfilling experience that provided the essential mathematics I needed to succeed in my mathematical and statistical theory classes. I started MPC in the Beginning Algebra I class, and graduated after taking the required core up to Differential Equations. I’ve had to show my data analytics and data science internships how I can apply the mathematics I learned to the job. I’m proud to say that I’m well prepared to continue my Statistics career path thanks to the excellent education I received from the instructors and tutoring services of the MPC Mathematics Program.
