Program Overview

How does gender affect people’s lives and the social, political, and economic organization of society? In this program, courses investigate gendered systems through a social justice framework and intersectional methods attentive to race, ethnicity, and sexuality.  Students learn about the field’s interdisciplinary foundations through study of culture, politics, literature, media, and history. Graduates are equipped with a uniquely versatile degree applicable to diverse careers and transfer degree programs.

Job Outlook

Equipped for research, analysis, and communication jobs, Gender and Women’s Studies graduates possess skills in high demand in business, legal services, human resources, community services, non-profit, philanthropy, and victim advocacy careers. A high number of graduates work as project managers, researchers, and professional fundraisers. Testimonials

Jean Schneider

The GWOS classes I took at MPC directly prepared me for my major, and general academic life, at UC Santa Cruz. The people, theories, and concepts we studied in the introductory classes gave me the wide and sturdy base of knowledge I needed to understand the more nuanced information my UCSC feminist studies classes focused on. The best part of my experience in GWOS at MPC was that I was able to take all my classes online before that was a normal option for most programs; as a student from out of the area with disabilities, the opportunity to take online classes made obtaining an education accessible and fruitful when it may not have been possible otherwise.
