Program Overview

Learn French at MPC through the well-recognized communicative approach, which emphasizes meaningful conversational interaction; direct work with authentic texts in the target language; linguistic competence with non-native, near-native and native speakers; and an awareness of French and Francophone cultures. Whether for travel preparation or cultural enrichment or to ultimately pursue a career in French, international studies, or translation, students will enhance their global perspective in the French program.

Job Outlook

French is spoken by more than 275 million people worldwide, so in addition to teaching French, graduates may pursue careers in tourism, travel and finance, as well as in governmental and non-governmental international organizations.  In addition, the flexibility, discipline, and analytical skills required to learn another language, along
with study of literature and Francophone culture, provide a solid basis for venturing into other careers.

Testimonials

Kelly Mulligan

Avoir une deuxième langue, c’est posséder une deuxième âme." Charlemagne said it best; “To have another language is to possess a second soul”. Taking French at MPC was one of the best decisions I ever made. French was and continues to be one of my greatest passions in life.

Roseanne Root

Speaking French is something I never thought I could accomplish. I know now that I will never stop studying this beautiful language. I had absolutely no previous experience but, while I am certainly not (yet) fluent, I am amazed at what I have learned and am continuing to learn.

Sabrina Hammon

I am forever grateful to the French program at MPC for experiences that shaped my academic success. I began without knowing how to say anything in French. Every day, I felt like I was exercising my brain. In class, I developed confidence and skills in French, while building life-long friendships in an always friendly and encouraging environment. As a UC transfer student who now speaks and understands French, I feel confident to begin my next academic chapter.
